People look at a series of paintings entitled ‘paint a little color, paint a little red, paint a little blue, sorrow’ by Chinese artist Ye Yongqing, hanging on a wall behind an installation by Qiu Zhijie entitled ‘The horse distant after the revolution,’ during a group exhibit entitled ‘The Constructed Dimension’ at the National Art Museum of China, Beijing, China, 20 August 2010. The exhibit showcases the works of twenty Chinese artists, and will run until 02 September 2010.

The largest solo mainland show of works by Ju Ming, arguably Taiwan’s most influential sculptor, is currently running at the National Art Museum of China. On view are 150 larger-than-life pieces of his Living World series, works Ju has produced over the past 30 years in a wide range of media, including wood, stone, ceramics, bronze, sponge, styrofoam and stainless steel.

The 18th International Congress for Aesthetics (ICA) will be held from Aug. 8 to 13 at Peking University.
Under the theme “Diversity in Aesthetics,” more than 800 scholars from over 60 countries will gather to share views about aesthetics philosophy, Gao Jianping, general secretary of the International Association of Aesthetics (IAA), told a press conference Monday.

World famous sculptor Ju Ming from Taiwan is holding a large-scale solo exhibition at the National Art Museum of China, showing a selection of his Living World Series sculptures that he has created over the past 30 years.
A total of 150 sculptures are on display in four exhibition halls at the museum, revealing the artist’s personal interpretations of the kaleidoscopic human world. The exhibition also provides an insight in part, to the great contemporary sculptor’s lifelong artistic achievements.

The largest art training center for Chinese painting was set up on Sunday in Tianjin, thanks to the joint efforts of The Ministry of Culture, China National Academy of Painting, and the Tianjin Municipal Government. The facility will ultimately become a giant incubator for developing the talent of creative artists.

Art lovers have a rare and limited opportunity to view a scroll considered a seminal work in the history of Chinese painting, Illustration to the Second Prose Poem on the Red cliff Red Cliff. After August 1, the scroll will be taken off view and not available for public viewing for at least five years to protect it from deterioration caused by exposure to even low light levels.
“This remarkable work is almost a thousand years old, and we feel a deep responsibility to preserve it for another millennium,” said Colin Mackenzie, senior curator of Chinese art at theĀ Nelson-Atkins.

Wu Guanzhong, the father of modern Chinese art, died late on Friday in Beijing Hospital, aged 91.
Born in 1919, Wu was a native of Yixing in east China’s Jiangsu Province.
In 1947, he went to France to study Western painting and returned to China in 1950. He taught at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts and Tsinghua University.
Wu integrated the Chinese ink and wash technique with Western painting methods. He is now widely regarded at home and abroad as the father of modern Chinese painting.
